I'm sorry to say that after all this time, I never really got around to creating a proper custom setup for ET.
I just didn't enjoy the game enough to bother with all the effort of creating cfg files and put in the useful scripts I enjoyed when playing RtCW.

I don't want to struggle through the default settings for ages on QW:ET though, so I want to start putting some binds in place earlier rather than later.

It looks like the system behind this is similar to the old RtCW and ET system. There's a few tweaks though.

1) location
The files are no longer held in your "program files" folder. They're now located in "my documents.

The default location for the demo is:
C:\Documents and Settings\Salaman\My Documents\id Software\Enemy Territory - QUAKE Wars Demo\base

The default location for the beta was:
C:\Documents and Settings\Salaman\My Documents\id Software\Enemy Territory - QUAKE Wars Public Beta\base

I suspect the retail version will be:
C:\Documents and Settings\Salaman\My Documents\id Software\Enemy Territory - QUAKE Wars\base

Of course, on your machine, "Salaman" will be replaced by your Windows username.

2) cfg Files
There are two cfg files in your "Base" folder. One is called etqwbinds.cfg the other etqwconfig.cfg
I believe the etqwconfig.cfg is the "default" setting. The etqwbinds, cfg holds any changes you make in the in game menu.
If the game crashes or the cfg file is lost somehow, the default settings are recuperated from teh etqwconfig.cfg and a new etqwbinds.cfg is created with these settings.

^^ I'm not 100% sure of the above but I think that's how it goes.

So far so familiar.

3) in game console
To bring down the console in QW;ET you need to hit CTRL ALT and the ~ key (above TAB, under ESC, left of the 1)
To type in a command, you don't need to use a / or \ in QW, you just type directly into the console

4) commands
Some "old" commands will work some won't. I think Mike posted a full list of console commands already.
I managed to use the RtCW/ET command "bind backspace kill" to remap my backspace key.

I'm sure some useful scripts will crop up fairly shortly. I'll be looking froward to the set of ld "TWR essentials"
Suicide button
Class selection script
etc.

Hi!
I'm pretty sure that most people who know me will be amazed that I am posting in here and not asking for help!

For some time now I have been messing about with customising my binds for QW:ET. I don't know if it is of any use to any one - but thats never stopped me posting stuff before ! So here are some of the binds I have used.

bind "MOUSE2" "_weapon0" "" "vehicle"

This binds mouse2 to fire decoys while in vehicles, and is probably the only one that is of any use!

bind "KP_HOME" "say '^1'VISIT OUR FORUM " "" "default"
bind "KP_SLASH" "say '^4'WWW.WOLFENSTEINRESOURCE.COM " "" "default"

These are pretty self explaining! The colours can be changed by altering the number before the text, currently set so it would look like this:
VISIT OUR FORUM
WWW.WOLFENSTEINRESOURCE.COM
A list of colours can be found on the link below.

bind "KP_DEL" "sayTeam 'np!' " "" "default"

This one will say np! - but only to your team. ( I have been TK'd too many times!!)

bind "ALT" "_stroyDown" "" "default"

This binds ammo to health for strogg to your left alt button - which I find much easier than the minus button.

bind "PGUP" "kill" "CTRL" "default"

Self kill when pressing left control and page up together.

There are also bot vsays

bind "UPARROW" "clientquickchat botchat/generic/youlead" "" "default"
 (says ' you lead ')

bind "T" "clientquickchat botchat/objectives/plantplasmacharge" "" "default"
(says 'i'm going to plant explosives)

bind "KP_INS" "clientquickchat botchat/generic/leadway" "" "default"
(says 'lead the way')

bind "semicolon" "clientquickchat botchat/generic/gotyourback" "" "default"
(says ' I've got your back' )

bind "kp_minus" "clientquickchat botchat/generic/vehicle/stopiwillfixride" "" "default"
(says 'stop the vehicle, i'll fix it')

bind "KP_PGDN" "clientquickchat botchat/generic/needtransport" "" "default"
(says 'do you require transport?')

bind "/" "clientquickchat botchat/generic/whereto" "" "default"
(says ' where to strogg/sir?')

bind "KP_END" "clientquickchat botchat/generic/gotammo" "" "default"
(says ' stroyent on the way/ i've got ammo here')

bind "kp_star" "clientquickchat botchat/generic/tkrevive" "" "default"
(says ' I'm going to TK revive you')

You can change the keys to suit.  I found it useful to check which buttons were free on my keyboard and then asign them to the commands I needed. Most of these work on both gdf and strogg, but the planting charge for example, works only for strogg - because I ran out of buttons to bind !!! Going to need a bigger keyboard soon!

Also, being a bit of a dizzy girl !, I did not realise that to get the in game global voice to work you need to go into your settings and asign a key to it!! Only found that out recently!  Embarrassed

You should put any binds ect. into a notepad file and name that file autoexec. The auto exec file is then dropped into the folder
 C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents\id Software\Enemy Territory - QUAKE Wars\sdnet\moosea\base

I must admit I was surprised how easy it was. But I also confess that I had a little help from some friends and from this site-

http://4newbies.planetwolfenstein.gamespy.com/ETQW/scripting.php#basicbind

Hope that at least some of these are useful to someone!  Grin
